Phuket Island in Thailand is more than just one of the best holiday vacation spots in Southeast Asia. Its location in the Andaman Sea also makes it a prime starting location for many more in-depth island hopping getaways. There are some many other isles and islets in the general surroundings of Phuket. Some of these, like Kho Maphrao have become resorts themselves like its Coconut Island Hotel complex. Others have become photography magnets like stately-looking Khao Phing Kan, the “James Bond Isle” that is now protected due to concerns over the increased tourist presence hastening the erosion of its limestone base. Still, they’re not the only out of the way spots to explore, and Love Island Company Ltd., better known as Love Andaman, would love to interest all travelers looking for an exotic adventure to go on a one-day trip to a couple of scenic islands out in the Andaman Sea, Koh Rok and Koh Haa.
Things to Remember
Here are a few items of note that you must keep in mind when taking up Love Andaman’s Koh Rok-Koh Haa Islands Tour package. This is a join-in type of excursion, set for only all morning and afternoon. The trip is available seven days a week so there’s not much worry about missing it. The tour package price completely includes government taxes, national park fees, insurance, the fare for hotel and speedboat transfers, expenses for light breakfast and lunch (food, fruits and beverages), your English-speaking tour guide, and rental for your own set of dive gear (mask with snorkel, fins, life vest).
All personal expenses on site are your own, but you would do well to stock up on the necessities for spending time on a beach outdoors. Definitely bring swimwear, along with outer clothing to keep the sun off when not in the water. Sunblock, insect repellent, a flashlight and a rudimentary first-aid kit are essential. Accessories like hats and glasses are good to minimize glare, as is a beach towel to relax on. But don’t forget to have fun too, so pack your cameras.
Note that if you’re bringing children along, they have to be at least four years old and under 120cm. To count for the child package price they have to be no older than ten. And last but not least, while these regulations are the default, Love Andaman reserves the right to change them, and the tour ensuing schedule and itinerary, depending on current weather conditions and their own discretion.
Schedule and Itinerary
Barring anything significant to change things, your tour of Koh Rok and Koh Haa will begin bright and early with a transfer from your hotel to the departure pier, at 7AM sharp. Come 8AM, the tour group will begin check-in for the accompanying guests of the day, followed by your designated eco-alert travel guide giving a briefing of the tour itself over a light breakfast with coffee and tea. Half an hour later on 8:30, your company will set off for the destination via first-class fiberglass speedboat. You’ll be sure to appreciate the speed of your vessel as even at max cruising speed it will be about 10 in the morning when you arrive at Koh Rok.
Here’s where the fun begins. As soon as you make land, you’re free to enjoy the run of the place, be it working on your tan in the sand or wading out into the surf to swim, float and snorkel. Lunch comes early at 11AM, where you can sit down to a nice outdoor-cooked meal with your choice of soda or juices to help your morsels go down. At 12:30 high noon, you will board your boat again for a circuit of the southern islet of Koh Rok, where you’ll get another shot at swimming, diving and sunbathing.
Enjoy your spot there until 2 in the early afternoon, when the boat will take your party to the Koh Haa isles, this time for some intense snorkeling with a coral reef to see up close. You’ll get an hour of fun here, before the craft makes its return journey to Phuket. Along the way you’ll get to pass the Phi Phi Islands at around 3PM, where Leonardo DiCaprio shot his film “The Beach”. You’ll return to the pier at 5 in the late afternoon, with most likely a healthy tan and lots of sweet memories physical, documentary and in your head and heart.
