Earlier this year, ABS-CBN ran for its inaugural season a new localized edition of a reality dancing competition, “World of Dance” from NBC. From January to March, plenty of dancing acts from around the country and overseas competed for a P2 million jackpot and a spot on the USA edition of the show, currently on its third season. That honor was won by the FCPC Baliktanaw. But in the main American version, another Filipino dance group is doing its own heavy share of impressing the judges. Billed as being from Manila, Philippines the VPeepz crew has made it to the finals of this third season.
Inquirer.net has it that the junior team division of “World of Dance” USA season 3 was utterly dominated by Manila group VPeepz. Composed of members from age 11 to 16, they rocked the Cut Score Acts episode of the Division finals which aired Sunday, April 28. Arrayed against fellow junior team competitors The Crazy 8’s (Anaheim) and Downtown Divas (Miami), VPeepz chose to perform Nelly and Fergie’s “Party People,” with a theme based on boxing/mixed martial arts judging from the ring set design. It was this crazy dance number that earned them a score of 96, securing their place in the World Finals next week.
In their post-performance evaluation the competition judges Ne-yo, Jennifer Lopez and Derek Hough complimented VPeepz’ incredible degree of synchronicity and showmanship in their stuntwork. Ne-yo remarked that only few other contestants in this season of “World of Dance” could come close to how smoothly the members moved in sync. Lopez for her part praised the humorous segment where the group lifted a female member in a split position on their shoulders where they mimed breaking her legs (actually supplied by dancers on the wings of the formation). She declared that her favorite part, along with all the “body-slamming and crazy stuff” mixed into the dance.
As it stands, VPeepz had put a Filipino presence on the World Finals of this run for “World of Dance” in the junior team division. Joining them are junior champions Ellie and Ava, upper representative Briar Nolet, upper team The Kings, and wildcard performer Unity LA. The prize is a million dollars to the ultimate winner of these five finalist acts. It has yet to be announced when Philippine edition champions FCPC Baliktanaw will figure in the American edition following their season 3 World Final.
