People who know what the term “Renaissance Man” means might somewhat be able to argue that Manny Pacquiao is one of them. He certainly does go out of his way to do as many different things in his life as possible, not just the ones he is good at. Outside of his illustrious boxing career he has played basketball, acted, enlisted as an Army reservist, served as a government official on the local and national levels, even become a recording artist with several novelty albums and singles. It is in that vein that Manny is performing his next big act.

According to GMA News, Manny Pacquiao is getting ready to debut in his first ever concert, something he has never done before in spite of his substantial music discography over the years. And true to his person, the reason he has decided to perform in a big venue before a large audience is simple, as he explained on the Makati press con back in June. “As my own personal way of thanking my fans, to all my fans for all these years, I realized that this is also a very timely opportunity for me to share my passion for music,” Pacquiao had said back then.

Now, Manny has offered a little glimpse of how much effort he is investing into his preparation for this thanksgiving concert he spoke of, scheduled for next month. The Pambansang Kamao and Fighting Senator of the Philippines shared video footage on his Instagram Stories account just this Thursday, August 15. They show Pacquiao in a recording studio, recording his song set with a live band. Knowing fully well that his practice is being recorded, he candidly admitted that he is not sure if his singing will carry well on a concert atmosphere, but he will try his best as always.

While the Instagram Stories post, which was temporary, did not cover the entire practice session, they did drop hints at some of the songs Manny Pacquiao will do at his concert. One of them is Orient Pearl’s “Pagsubok” from 2005. Another is a more recent number, the meme-fountain “Buwan” by Juan Karlos. He also appears to be playing electric guitar for some of the numbers as he had such an instrument on his lap for some parts of the video.

Fans of the celebrated boxing legend, whose latest triumph was a split-decision win against American Keith Thurman last July 20, will find out soon if Manny’s singing voice will be a viable concert hit. “Manny Pacquiao Live in Concert” happens on the evening of September 1 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
