“ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE” Explodes with Full TRAILER Ahead of MARCH Release on HBO MAX

A lot has already been said about “Justice League,” the movie that would have been for Warner Bros. Pictures’ DC Extended Universe (DCEU) what “Avengers” in 2012 was for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). When the film’s original director Zack Snyder stepped down following the death of his wife, story cowriter (and “Avengers” director) Joss Whedon took up the duty of finishing it. The 2017 premiere of “Justice League” was mediocre, with fans claiming that Whedon did significant reshoots and removed too many scenes. Calls for a director’s cut ultimately led to the development of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” for release on HBO Max, the first full trailer arriving Sunday.

Vanity Fair tells us that the trailer for “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” ostensibly a director’s cut of the 2017 movie but increasingly shaping up to be something bigger and better, came out on Valentine’s Day this past Sunday. As if the wait until the official streaming release next month did not feel long enough for Snyder believers let down by the Joss Whedon version, this new preview only serves make the last few weeks of waiting near-unbearable. It is a perfect blend of old 2017 scenes with new material that makes it a whole new beast compared to the baseline.

From the first scene calling back to the death of the Man of Steel from 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” to the sinister squeaky premonition voiceover by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, it becomes clear that Snyder’s vision of “Justice League” is leagues better than what cinemas got years ago. Where the 2017 iteration only fought Steppenwolf, a minion of the bigger DC Comics evil that is Darkseid, this time the New God of Apokolipis is in play, portrayed via motion-capture and voice by ray Porter. Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) himself got a massive CGI redesign making him more formidable.

One other element in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” that have fans of the bigger DCEU franchise going crazy with excitement is the inclusion of Jared Leto reprising his “Suicide Squad” (2016) role as the Joker. He even gets to utter the meme-related line “We live in a society” to Ben Affleck’s Batman. Then there is Henry Cavill’s Superman wearing an all-black super-suit rather than the blue-red ensemble. With additional casting on top of the restored scenes, this take on the “Justice League” movie looks well to match any MCU “Avengers” counterpart, from the 2012 all the way up to “Endgame.”

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” the movie that not only should have been but taken even beyond, will arrive on streaming at HBO Max March 18.
