Every major TV network has at least one actress under contract who could arguably be considered the “queen” of their scripted programming. For GMA7 that would be Marian Rivera, the formidable mestiza Spanish-Filipina who shot to stardom in the Kapuso remake of Mexican telenovela “MariMar” in 2007, and is now part of a showbiz/real-life power couple with fellow Kapuso heavy-hitter Dingdong Dantes. Interestingly however, she has been out of action TV-wise for about three years now, especially since she was supposed to come back in a recent production but could not. But the Kapuso Primetime Queen assures social media that she is coming back soon.

This much was promised by Marian Rivera on her official Instagram page in response to a fan question in the comments of a recently-uploaded photo according to The Manila Bulletin. On that photo, dated this past Sunday, August 1, a fan with the IG username of leng14344 asked straight out when the actress might get a new primetime project on the GMA Telebabad block, also mentioning that they watched Marian and Dingdong Dantes on the Kapuso remake of K-drama “Endless Love” from 2010, currently streaming on YouTube. Wonder of wonders, Rivera hinted that there is a comeback at the works, especially as the script for it is currently being finalized.

It is not hard to blame the likes of leng14344 for wondering if Marian is coming back to TV. Her last Kapuso production was the urban fantasy drama “Super Ma’am” (2017-18). After a rest in 2019, Rivera would have been part of the cast for the recently-concluded “First Yaya,” but decided not to, especially as the COVID pandemic kicked up.

That did not mean the Kapuso Queen was idle. In early January she broke into theatre with the Tanghalang Ateneo in the virtual stage play “Password: 03d1pu5_R3x (Oedipus Rex),” a modernized take on the classic Greek play by Sophocles. Plus, earlier in July, Marian hinted at a possible cross-network collaboration of sorts with one of her Kapamilya counterparts (and former Kapuso herself), Angel Locsin. What that team-up is has not been specified. But fans can rest assured that Marian does seem to have a project to come back in soon.
