While the MCU “Loki” series was still running on Disney+, Marvel Studios has already begun promoting their next project, an animated series for a change but also an episodic anthology called “What If…?” The series will how episode-length vignettes on alternate events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe created by divergent happenings from the “Sacred Timeline” (destroyed at the climax of “Loki”). One alternate take involves T’Challa being taken from Wakanda by Yondu the Ravager before he becomes Black Panther. He would be voiced by his MCU film-actor Chadwick Boseman in arguably his final role before his death last year. But apparently Boseman will be reprising “AU” T’Challa’s in multiple episodes.

It will not just be the “T’Challa Star-Lord” episode of Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” that will feature the voice of Chadwick Boseman, to be heard months after he passed away in August of 2020. ComicBook.com has it confirmed by Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios himself along with “What If…?” show-runner Brad Winderbaum that the star of MCU’s “Black Panther” lent his voice to alternative animated versions of his character in four episodes of the nine-episode anthology. That is quite a lot of T’Challa to satisfy the late Chadwick’s fans.

“He’s in four episodes, actually,” says Winderbaum. “He plays different versions of the character.” The executive producer noted that Boseman was one of the earliest MCU talents to sign up for “What If…?” of which a major selling point was that the actual actors and actresses from the superhero film series will reprise their characters being presented differently. There was also the sobering knowledge that Chadwick may have recorded his lines for four different versions of T’Challa in the show, aware that his time is running out less than a half-decade after his character debuted on “Captain America: Civil War.”

Chadwick Boseman can be expected as early as episode 2 of MCU’s “What If…?” which is supposedly titled “What if…T’Challa became Star-Lord of the Guardians of the Galaxy?” A scene from the episode was teased in the show’s first trailer, where Star-Lord T’Challa is rescued from being accosted by the Nova Corps by Yondu (Michael Rooker) and his whistle-controlled arrow. The “Black Panther” star might possibly also be heard in the episode where Tony Stark is saved from being abducted by the Ten Rings courtesy of Erik “Killmonger” Stevens (Michael B. Jordan). Fans will have to wait for when “What If…?” “hosted” by Jeffrey Wright as Uatu the Watcher, premieres August 11 on Disney+ streaming.
