DISNEY WORLD’S “STAR WARS” GALACTIC STARCRUISER HOTEL Sample Rates for TWO NIGHTS Features Hefty Tags

When Disney acquired “Star Wars” via their creative studios at Lucasfilm, the idea of creating theme park lands based on the space-opera franchise was a natural progression. First announced in 2016, then opened in 2019, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was an immersive area that featured two ride attractions, various themed dining and merchandise stores, and “Star Wars” story events featuring characters from the sequel trilogy. While open in both Disneyland Park and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, the latter version of Galaxy’s Edge is notable due to being connected to a soon-to-open “Star Wars” themed hotel, one with accommodation prices that, at first glance, is like a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

CNBC has gotten word on what visitors to Walt Disney World in Florida can expect to shell out for if they decide to stay at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, once it opens next year of course. The impressive themed accommodation not only has a “Star Wars” motif, it will also boast an interactive and immersive experience for guests with all the Jedi, Resistance and First Order goodness they could ask for in a two-night stay. And the two-night rate has some people thinking “wealthy-only.”

From a sample cabin rate given out by Disney World, two adult guests will be charged $1,209 each, for two nights at the Galactic Starcruiser. That comes to a total of $4,809. True, the individual rates go down the more people are in the group (3 guests of 2 adults and 1 child = $889 each for $5,299 total, or 4 guests of 3 adults and 1 child = $749 each for $5,999 total), but the scaling of the prices for a cabin and two-night stay is eyebrow-raising. Even the (formerly) most expensive Disney World Hotel, the Grand Floridian, costs only $2,150 for two adults, two nights, and day-tickets to the parks in the package.

Then again, the Galactic Starcruiser is more than a hotel. Its immersive lore has it being a Corellian-built cruise starship, the Chandrila Star Line’s Halcyon. Ostensibly travelling across the “Star Wars” galaxy, guests will be able to interact with staff and cast members in the roles of aliens and cruise personnel, as well as First Order troopers and undercover Resistance agents, with some familiar franchise faces popping in as well. Eat “Star Wars” themed meals, learn to play Sabacc, train with a lightsaber, and have time to visit Galaxy’s Edge in between these various activities.

At present, Disney World looks to open the Galactic Starcruiser hotel sometime in the spring of 2022, after its original 2021 opening was scrubbed for pandemic-related reasons. Time will tell if the situation has improved enough for it, and if people actually do manage to save up for those group room rates without much fuss.
