It has never really, definitively been confirmed that John Lloyd Cruz is now officially a Kapuso. For starters, he is currently under contract with Crown Artist Management, an agency founded by fellow former Kapamilya talent Maja Salvador who now headlines a primetime soap opera on TV5. Aside from his June 6 appearance at the GMA7-broadcast “Shopee 6.6 Midyear Sale” event, Lloydie has yet to be announced as part of an upcoming project on that network. Yes, there is talk of it being a sitcom. There is also speculation that his potential leading lady is Kapuso actress Andrea Torres. But what does she say about it?

As Inquirer.net tells it, Andrea Torres is erring on the side of caution with regards to the rumor mill that she will be cast alongside John Lloyd Cruz in a future GMA7 comedy. The actress had renewed her contract as a Kapuso last July, and answered some questions regarding her next projects during a virtual con. “I have to see an official announcement from the network regarding that. I have heard of the talks and seen the news items,” says Torres. “But it’s hard to claim something until a story conference or taping actually happens.”

That is not to say however that Andrea is not up to working with John Lloyd, who has been one of the heavyweight Kapamilya stars for years prior to his lengthy sabbatical from showbiz starting 2017. She was actually pleased to hear the sitcom talk, being a Lloydie fan herself. As Torres explains, “I hope it materializes because you don’t get an opportunity like this often.” She adds that working with Cruz in comedy will be a prime learning experience. He is equally at home with sitcoms as he is in dramas, while Andrea’s comedy experience so far is in gag shows like “Bubble Gang.”

While she waits for further developments in that speculated sitcom with John Lloyd Cruz, Andrea Torres can focus first on her current Kapuso drama, the sprawling cultural epic “Legal Wives” which premiered on GMA7 Telebabad last July 26. She plays Diane, a Roman Catholic woman who finds herself becoming the second wife of Ismael, a wealthy Muslim man of Maranao royalty already married to one, and will later wed another.
